Housing Choice Vouchers
Why vouchers are not pins on this map
Housing Choice Vouchers travel with the renter, not the building. There is no public list of voucher households at any address, and HUD only releases voucher counts by census tract to protect tenant privacy. That is why a market-rate building can accept your voucher and still show no record here.
In Virginia, refusing a renter because they pay with a housing voucher is illegal for most landlords: source of funds has been a protected class under the Virginia Fair Housing Law since July 1, 2020. Landlords who own four or fewer rental units are exempt, and a landlord may decline if the voucher payment is not approved within 15 days.
What this page can list per address is property-attached subsidy: Project-Based Section 8, Project-Based Voucher properties from FCRHA, Loudoun County, and HOC, public housing, and LIHTC buildings. In those buildings the subsidy stays with the unit and the housing authority runs a separate waitlist.
